Why I'm Building an Extension of my Brain

I'm building Basebrain because I can't remember anything.
I'm Boris, a software engineer, thinker, and former startup founder. I consume an overwhelming amount of information daily. Articles, research papers, tweets, videos, documentation – it all floods my browser in dozens (sometimes hundreds) of tabs. Sound familiar?
We've All Been There
I've tried over two dozen bookmark managers, note-taking apps, and productivity suites. Every single one descended into complete chaos.
They all follow the same pattern: sign up, organize notes and bookmarks into folders, collections, tags, and hope you can find them later. But organization requires discipline and time – two things I consistently lack.
Here's what always happens:
- Start using a new tool with enthusiasm
- Meticulously organize everything for a week
- Get busy and start saving things "to organize later"
- Months pass... nothing is organized
- Finding anything becomes impossible
- Abandon ship and start over
Same with notes. I don't take long notes. My notes are fleeting thoughts I want to capture for later – product ideas, bug solutions, marketing techniques to try. After trying everything under the sun, I've settled on a single TODO.md
file on my desktop and a notebook I carry everywhere.
This Isn't My First Rodeo
Four years ago, I built a bookmarking tool with full-text search. It still had folders, but at least you could search across all of them. It still required precise keywords to find anything though. The fundamental problem remained unsolved.
Then Generative AI changed everything. Today, semantic search and AI that actually "understands" context and extracts meaning isn't just accessible – it costs pennies.
Enter Basebrain
Basebrain is simple:
- Save memories with a single click (links, articles, PDFs, images, videos)
- Chat with your memories in natural language
- Discover unexpected connections across your personal corner of the web
No manual folders. No manual collections. No manual tags. AI handles everything.
Want that article about serverless architecture you read last month? Just ask. Trying to remember the paper with that graph about LLM training costs? Ask Basebrain. Need ideas connecting machine learning and customer retention? Your saved content might reveal insights you never connected.
Save Fast, Find Faster
The goal is straightforward: make retrieving information as effortless as saving it. Your knowledge shouldn't be locked away in a digital filing cabinet you never open.
I'm building Basebrain to be the memory I wish I had – perfect, searchable, and always available.
If you're drowning in tabs and information while constantly forgetting what you've already seen, Basebrain is for you.
Let's chat with our memories.
